2024 Gentle Folk Pinot Noir
Gentle Folk
Adelaide Hills, South Australia
This release combines estate fruit with grapes from the St James’s vineyard, with the majority sourced from Little Creek and Basket Range. As a result, it leans into a deeper earthiness and bramble character, while still staying true to the Gentle Folk signature style - a delicate dance of aromatics and tannin. Unfortunately, yields were tiny this year, so only a small amount is available.
These grapes are from Little Creek and Basket Range, with a small proportion from Scary Gully and the St James vineyard in Uraidla, with vine age ranging from six to 37 years. Clones include MV6, D5V12, Martini, Pommard, 114, 115, 777, 828 and 667.
The vineyards sit between 500m and 620m elevation, with varied aspects - east-west at Monomeith, north-south at Little Creek, south in Piccadilly, south-east and south-west at Scary Gully and north in Uraidla. Soils are predominantly light loamy clay over sandstone, with extensive schist and quartz rubble. Vinification was mostly 20% whole cluster, fermented in open-top vessels over three weeks, with a portion of 100% whole bunch ferments undergoing shorter maceration. The wine was matured for eight months in French oak barriques and puncheons, 15% of which were new.
