2021 Bodega Chacra 'Chacra' Chardonnay

Bodega Chacra

Rio Negro, Argentina

Aged 20% in concrete eggs, 15% in stainless steel tanks and 20% in used French oak barrels for 10 months

Made in collaboration with Jean-Marc Roulot and produced from 40-year-old vines in mineral soils with alluvial stones covered in calcaire. The wine is intense and energetic, high pitched and lively, round and austere, refined and mineral. It has a dry mouthfeel and a saltiness natural to the area. - Winery note

"This has a complex yet refined nose of sliced apples, peach pits, smoked almonds, wet stones, chalk and white pepper. Hints of beeswax, juniper and cedar, too. It’s medium-bodied, elegant and light-footed, yet powerful, too. Creamy layers of stones and stone fruit slowly evolve to blanched almonds and nougat. Very long and precise. Try this from 2024. From biodynamically grown grapes." 98 Points, James Suckling

"Apple, white peach, a slight smokiness, almonds, a dusting of white pepper, fennel and green herbs. It’s flinty and tight, fine chalk dust texture, smooth and saline, a gentle creamy nougat glossiness, and the finish is very long with a flinty texture, and subtle bitterness. Discreet and fine, but with presence and so much character. It’s a beautiful wine. All just so." 96 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
